There are lots of opportunities for Shopping in Torrington and the surrounding towns. The towns listed here after Torrington can all be reached by car within about half an hour.
Torrington itself has plenty of excellent shops selling locally produced meat, bread and cheese etc as well as more exotic fare from the single delicatessen located in South Street
Barnstaple; an ancient port and trading centre and the first town in England to be given borough status; in 1272, is now the shopping centre of North Devon with department stores, the usual High Street retailers and many traditional shops such as those in the Pannier Market and along Butchers Row
South Molton was granted Royal Charters in the 16th century and 17th century to hold both cattle and produce markets. The town now has antique shops and specialist emporia for food, game, honey and locally made chocolates.
Hatherleigh is an ancient Devon market town, at least 1000 years old, famous for its cattle and livestock markets as well as for its arts and crafts. Visit the Tuesday morning market to see local farmers bidding for livestock and to buy local produce, plants, crafts etc.
