The above map shows the centre of Torrington. The town cannot grow to the south because it sits on the crest of a ridge, with a very steep cliff like face at that point. You can see the switchback pathway that allows people to walk down to the torridge river.

New Street (the A386) runs east to west and sits on the very crest of the ridge. The terrain slopes steeply down to the north as well.

Head west along the A386 for Bideford and Barnstaple, head east for South Moulton.
